सेतुबन्धम्-५२

उण्णामिअं मिव णहं दूरं ओसारिआ विव दिसाहोआ ।

उम्मूलन्तेहि धरे पसारिअं मिव पवंगमेहि महिअलम् ॥ ६-७१ ॥

[ उन्न्नामितमिव नभो दूरमपसारिता इव दिगाभोगाः ।

  उन्मूलयद्भिर्धरान्प्रसारितमिव प्लवंगमैर्महीतलम् ॥]

While the monkeys up-rooted the mountains, it looked as if, in the process, they bent the sky, they chased away the directions and they widened the earth.  

दीस‍इ क‍इणवहुक्ख‍अधराहरट्ठाणगहिरविवरुत्तिण्णो ।

उप्पाआ‍अव‍अम्वो सेसाहिप्फणमणिप्पहाविच्छड्डो ॥ ६-७२ ॥

[ दृश्यते कपिनिवहोत्खातधराधरस्थानगभीरववरोत्तीर्णः ।

  उत्पातातपाताम्रः शेषाहिफणमणिप्रभाविच्छर्दः ॥]

In the craters created by the up-rooting of mountains the luster of the gems on the hood of Shesha serpent looks burning and coppery foreboding calamity.

केलासरिट्ठसारं गरुअं पि भुआबलं णिसा‍अरव‍इणो ।

पवएहि पाडिएक्कं पक्ककरुक्खित्तमहिहरेहि लहुइअम् ॥ ६-७३ ॥

[ कैलासदृष्टसारं गुरुकमपि भुजाबलं निशाचरपतेः ।

  प्लवगैः प्रत्येकमेककरोत्क्षिप्तमहीधरैर्लघूकृतम् ॥]

Monkeys, each one lifting a mountain in one hand belittled the prowess of Ravana’s shoulders which lifted the Kailasa mountain.

उक्ख‍अगिरिविवरोव‍इअदिण‍अराअवमिलन्ततमसंघातम् ।

जा‍अं पविरलतिमिरं आवण्डुरधूमधूसरं पा‍आलम् ॥ ६-७४ ॥

[ उत्खातगिरिविवरावपतितदिनकरातपमिलत्तमःसंघातम् ।

   जातं प्रविरलतिमिरमापाण्डुरधूसरं पातालम् ॥]

The netherworld became dusty and grey and sparsely dark as the sun’s rays fell on to the dark craters created by the up-rooting of mountains.

पवएहि अ णिरवेक्खं क‍ओ करन्तेहि गिरिसवासुद्धरणम् ।

सामिअकज्जेकरसो अअसमुहे वि जसभा‍अणं अप्पाणो ॥ ६-७५ ॥

[ प्लवगैश्च निरपेक्षं कृतः कुर्वद्भिर्गिरिशवासोद्धरणम् ।

  स्वामिकार्यैकरसोऽयशोमुखेऽपि यशोभाजनमात्मा ॥]

In up-rooting of the Kailasa mountain, the abode of Shiva, carelessly, which otherwise could have brought in ignominy, monkeys attained fame as they were single-minded in their devotion to their master’s errand.
