भामिनीविलासः-१७
कृतं महोन्नतं कृत्यमर्जितं चामलं यशः ।
यावज्जीवं सखे तुभ्यं दास्यामो विपुलाशिषः ॥ ११२ ॥
अन्वयः : सखे! (त्वया) महोन्नतं कृत्यं कृतम्, अमलं यशः च
अर्जितम् ।
यावज्जीवं तुभ्यं विपुल-आशिषः दास्यामः ।
Dear friend! You did a great job and earned blemish free
fame. We shall bless you profusely till our end. [ It could be a praise or a
sarcastic statement!]
अविरतं परकार्यकृतां सतां मधुरिमातिशयेन वचोऽमृतम् ।
अपि च मानसमम्बुनिधिः यशो विमलशारदपार्वणचन्द्रिका ॥ ११३ ॥
अन्वयः : अविरतं परकार्यकृतां सतां अतिशयेन मधुरिमा वचः
अमृतम् ।
अपि च (तेषां) मानसम् अम्बुनिधिः, यशः
विमल-शारद-पार्वण-चन्द्रिका ।
The words of the virtuous who unceasingly work for the
welfare of others are very sweet ambrosia. And their mind is the ocean; their
fame is the pure autumnal moon light on a full moon night.
एत्य कुसुमाकरो मे सञ्जीवयिता गिरं चिरं मग्नाम् ।
इति चिन्तयतो हृदये पिकस्य समधायि शौभिकेन शरः ॥ ११४ ॥
अन्वयः : कुसुमाकरः एत्य मे चिरं मग्नां गिरं सञ्जीवयिता
इति चिन्तयतः पिकस्य हृदये शौभिकेन शरः समधायि ।
While the cuckoo was thinking that spring would come and
rejuvenate its sunken voice, a hunter shot it with his arrow. [A repetition of the idea in
verse 58.]
निर्गुणः शोभते नैव विपुलाडम्बरोऽपि ना ।
आपातरम्यपुष्पश्रीशोभिता शाल्मलिर्यथा ॥ ११५ ॥
अन्वयः : यथा आपात-रम्य-पुष्प-श्री-शोभिता शाल्मलिः (न
शोभते तथा) निर्गुणः ना विपुल-आडम्बरः अपि न शोभते एव ।
Just as the silk-cotton tree, which adorns itself with
flowers whose beauty lasts till they fall down, does not shine, a person with no good qualities even if
he puts on a show does not shine. [Called Simal in Hindi, silk-cotton tree has
a thorny trunk and bears fruits which burst to give out cotton-like floss.]
पङ्कैर्विना सरो भाति सदः खलजनैर्विना ।
कटुवर्णैर्विना काव्यं मानसं विषयैर्विना ॥ ११६ ॥
अन्वयः : सरः पङ्कैः विना भाति; सदः खलजनैः विना (भाति);
काव्यं कटुवर्णैः विना (भाति); मानसं विषयैः विना (भाति) ।
A lake shines when it is free from slush; a conference
shines if it is free of wicked persons; a literary work shines if it is free
from harsh syllables; a mind shines if it is free from sensory desires.
तत्त्वं किमपि काव्यानां जानाति विरलो भुवि ।
मार्मिकः को मरन्दानामन्तरेण मधुव्रतम् ॥ ११७ ॥
अन्वयः : भुवि काव्यानां किम् अपि तत्त्वं विरलः जानाति ।
मधुव्रतम् अन्तरेण मरन्दानां मार्मिकः कः?
It is only a rare person who understands anything of the
essence of a literary work. Who has a deep insight into the honey of flowers
other than the honey-bee? [Just as only a honeybee can appreciate the honey of
flowers, only a rare set of persons can appreciate poetry.]
